What's Happening (whatshappeninginmycity.com, its newsletters and app) is a free guide to local events. We collect as little as we can, never sell personal information, and never buy, rent or share mailing lists.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups: your email address and the cities you pick. We send a confirmation email first and only email addresses that confirm.
- Accounts: if you sign in with Google, Apple or an emailed code, we keep your email address, the name the sign-in service shares (if any), your chosen cities and site language, and a sign-in session. From Google and Apple we receive only your name and email; we never see your password.
- Advertisers: the business name, ad copy and link you submit, and your booking history. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
- Day plans: if you use Plan my day while signed in, we keep the choices you make (how you get around, interests, pace, budget, favorite foods and dietary needs), the days we plan or you save, and any feedback you send about them. Feedback is used, without your name or email, to improve plans for everyone. If you start from your current location, it is used only to plan that day and is not stored.
- Plus subscriptions: your subscription status and renewal date, and the Stripe customer and subscription IDs that link them to your account. Stripe handles the card; we never see or store card numbers.
- City requests: the city you ask for and, if you give it, your email so we can tell you when it launches.
- Sponsored-placement counts: when a sponsored spot is seen or clicked we count it. To count unique visitors per day we store a one-way scrambled code made from your IP address and browser, which changes daily and can't be turned back into either. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
Cookies and storage
wh_session: keeps you signed in (30 days).wh_subs: remembers which cities you signed up for on this device.wh_next,wh_oauth: short-lived, used only while signing in.googtransandwh_lang: your chosen language. Translation is done by Google's Website Translator, which sends page text to Google when you pick a language other than English.wh_plan_prefs(browser storage): your Plan my day choices on this device.
Who processes data for us
Cloudflare (hosting and our database), Stripe (payments), our email providers Amazon SES and Resend (delivering newsletters and sign-in codes), Google and Apple (only if you sign in with them), and Google Maps (place names in a planned day, with no personal details, to check they're still open). Each only gets what it needs to do that job.
Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can change cities any time from your account. Unsubscribing takes effect right away. Sign-in codes and receipts are only sent when you ask for them.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information while you use the service. To see, correct or delete your account and everything tied to it, email [email protected] and we'll do it within 30 days. Payment records may be kept as long as tax law requires.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
